Cromer Cricket Club - Wel

We are the premier cricket club in North Norfolk, and one of the oldest in the county.  We've been in and around the top level of the domestic county cricket scene since 1891, and have a reputation as a great play to play, watch and enjoy the highest standard of cricket on the Norfolk coast.

We're affiliated to the The Norfolk Cricket Association, The Norfolk Cricket Board, and the England & Wales Cricket Board.

We have a vibrant and growing youth scheme, with training for children from 11 to 17, with five ECB-accredited coaches, and we run Colts teams for u-13 and u-15s.

Cromer Cricket Week is one of the oldest in the country, and famous as a great week of sport, both on the field and in the bar.

And our beautiful ground is one of the finest places to while away a sunny Cromer afternoon, watching some high-quality cricket, and perhaps enjoying a quiet drink on the Bank...

How to find us

From the Chairman

John Graveling

Cricket has been played in Cromer since 1891, or maybe even earlier - Philip Yaxley records Cromer’s Suffield Park School playing in the balmy summer days of the early Edwardian era.

It was in the 1960s when retired Squadron leader Eric Bedwell assembled a side that was to become one of the leading teams in the County, winning a succession of honours. Since then the club has continued to prosper as the only Premier League team in North Norfolk. Now, with a nucleus of young players and an enthusiastic committee, we look forward to further successes as we move into 2008.

However, it is not just winning honours that makes a good club. It is the enjoyment of the game, and the friendships, and memories that derive from that, which are so important. There can be few more enjoyable ways of spending a warm sunny afternoon than sitting on the bank at the Norton Warnes Ground watching the contest between bat and ball; being involved in the banter; and partaking of some much needed refreshment.

At Cromer we welcome all of any age who would like to play, plus visiting teams and spectators - and we hope you all enjoy the cricket here, as so many of us have done over the years.

John

From the Captain

Tom Davies

I'd like to welcome everybody to the 2009 cricket season.

We had another positive season in 2008, finishing fourth in the league, which was probably a fair reflection of where we are as a club.  We have a good, young side and everyone is very optimistic about the future of Cromer CC.

The second XI, under Andy Van Greuning, clinched promotion from the Norfolk League Division Three, an excellent acheivement, although we have since applied and been accepted for membership fo the Norfolk Allaince league system for our second team.  This will see the twos play at decent grounds every week against some tougher opposition.

We recognise that the gap between the two sides is too large at present, and part of the grand plan is to get the seconds up to a level where they are playing cricket that is a proper preparation for the Premier Division.

This year the club will not be employing an overseas professional.  We've made that decision to enable us to plough some money into our youth setup which has to be the future of the club.  Of course, it means that the local lads will have to play just that little bit better to maintain the standards we've set over the past few years.

Rayno Arendse is moving over the our rivals Vauxhall Mallards - but you never really leave Cromer, and I'm sure he will have one eye on our results as they come in on a Saturday evening.  He was a top man and I'd like to thank him for all the hard work he put into the club.

As ever we will be concentrating hard on our youth policy, having teams at under 13 and under 15 playing in competitive tournaments. With qualified ECB coaches holding coaching sessions throughout the summer, we will be doing our best to make sure the future of Cromer Cricket Club is a bright one.

Thanks must go to all the sponsors for all their contributions which help provide the equipment and facilities the club needs to compete at the current standard of cricket.  Thanks also to the committee members and everybody else whose hard work behind the scenes help the running of the club - without these people we wouldn't survive.

Finally, we can't forget the supporters who come down week in and week out to watch and enjoy the cricket. It is always nice to see the boundary full of people on their deck-chairs enjoying cricket in the sunshine. We look forward to seeing you - and the occassional visitor! at the Norton Warnes very soon.

Tom
