Cromer v Old Buckenham (H)

5th July 2009

Norfolk Association of Officials Invitation Cup Quarter-Final

Cromer entertained Old Buckenham of Division One in the Quarter Final of the Officials Cup. The visitors won the toss and chose to bat first.

The hosts picked up two wickets in the first ten overs. Then after a useful partnership (38* with Fudge, Jarvis was dismissed for 25. from23 overs Buckenham were 80 for 4.

This brought Alexander to the crease to join opener Fudge. The pair upped the run rate and moved the score towards 200 with a partnership of 92. Elliott got Alexander leg before for 45 to break their stand. Fudge soon followed back to the pavilion after a superb innings of 64.

Heaney and Lawrence were the last men to trouble the scorers, with Heaney particularly aggressive reaching 31 in next to time before being dismissed by Charlwood. Cromer got the last four wickets without conceding any runs and Old Buckenham were all out for 234.

Richard Charlwood was the pick of the bowlers taking 5 for 56 from his 10 overs.

In the reply Cromer lost two early wickets with both Tom Davies and Colin Brown going cheaply.

It was David Turner and Ollie Kimber who got the Cromer innings going. Turner was the more reserved of the two whilst Kimber punished any loose delivery without risking his wicket.

Kimber quickly reached his half century making 50 off 40 balls. The partnership was eventually ended when Austin got Turner for 21. Kimber continued to show great composure at the crease and along with new batsman Charlwood they kept the run rate above 5 per over. Heaney got Charlwood (32) after he and Kimber had put on 54 in 11 overs. Kimber was creeping towards his hundred.

At the other end Cromer lost a couple more wickets and with 13 overs remaining they required 53 runs for victory. Kimber along with Dean Elliott would get Cromer to their target with six overs to spare.

Kimber reached his century off 110 balls. An excellent display from the 18 year old who went beyond 100 for the first time. The young batsman would finish not out on 103.

Elliott at the other end did superbly to make 29 from 23 deliveries, to help guide Cromer to a four wicket victory. Lawrence and Mann both picked up two wickets for the Division One side.

This victory for Cromer booked their place in the semi finals were they face a tough away trip to EAPL’s Vauxhall Mallards.

Many thanks to the Felbrigg Walker for sponsoring this game.
