Cromer v Downham (H)

Norfolk Alliance Premier Division 

Cromer faced Downham for the second week running and looked to show the same spirit as last week and hoped to pick up a positive result. But unfortunately it wasn’t to be for the North Norfolk side.

The league leaders won the toss and put the hosts into bat. Captain Tom Davies was dismissed in the first over and David Turner soon suffered a similar fate. Ollie Kimber also fell for single figures and most of the scoring was from the hard hitting Ben Clarke.

Clarke was dealing in boundaries but when Downham overseas Murdoch got Clarke for 33, Cromer were 53 for 4 off 10 overs. Richard Charlwood would be the next highest scorer with 18.

Murdoch was doing the damage with the ball taking all the top five Cromer batsmen. Murdoch wasn’t finished as he took two more wickets. Barnard also joined in the wicket taking grabbing 3 for 18. New Zealander Murdoch would finish with superb figures of 7 for 29 as Cromer were bowled out for just 88.

Despite needing just 89 runs from a possible 76 overs Downham made a shaky start. Both openers Tulett and Stuart went in the first 4 overs and Yates and Lanchester also went cheaply and Downham were 27 for 4.

It was again Murdoch causing the problems to Cromer, this time with the bat. The New Zealander was scoring boundaries regularly and quickly. Although Cromer picked up a fifth wicket (Todd for 13), it was Murdoch’s day as he made his half century and finished not out on 56, securing a five wicket win for his side.

Downham sealed the victory within 19 overs. Of the Cromer bowling Michael Warnes took 3 for 55 while James Craske picked up 2 for 31.
