Cromer A were on the wrong end of an early season wake up call at Old Catton on Saturday.
Electing to field after winning the toss, Cromer again produced a fine effort in the field on a blistering hot day. Elliott rolled back the years on a track he would have dreamed of in his prime, backed up by solid displays from Battrick, Taylor and the ever impressive Alex Craske. Cromer restricted the home team to 149 runs, which was as much down to the fine fielding as to the bowling, Green with two catches being the highlight, and both Turner and Furlong impassable.
With an understrength batting line up, Cromer needed the top order to fire, and despite losing last week's hero Turner quickly, Barrett and Elliott smoothly took the score onto 45 without any real alarm, before first Barrett then Elliott fell in quick sucession leaving Cromer on the brink of defeat.
That Cromer made a fist of it was in no small measure thanks to the patient and capable batting of Craske and Battrick, who both proved that they have the makings of being very useful all rounders, however once they were gone Catton took little time in finishing off the tail.
A game played in good spirit by both teams, but Cromer can and will do better
