Norwich & Coltishall Wanderers came to Cromer for the first game of the annual Cromer Cricket Week. Skipper Tom Davies won the toss and elected to bat first.
The captain was dismissed early but Rayno Arendse had started solidly. David Turner, Richard Charlwood and Michael Warnes were all dismissed cheaply and the home side were 60 for 4 from 19 overs.
The Wanderers attack was keeping things tight and runs were difficult to come by. Colin Brown now joined Arendse and they steadied the Cromer innings. In their partnership that lasted 20 overs they scored 55 runs to move the score to 115. The partnership came to an end after Brown was out leg before to Hayes.
Brown’s patient innings of 28 stabilised the Cromer innings and also allowed Arendse to move beyond his half century. But Arendse would soon follow Brown back to the pavilion after he was out off the bowling of Lindon Brown. Arendse made an excellent 68.
In the final 5 overs Cromer added 28 runs to post a total of 166 for 7. Adrian Buck (18) and Dean Elliott (19 not out) made useful scores at the end of the innings.
Jeremy Elliott and Lindon Brown were the pick of the Wanderers bowlers, both finishing with 3 for 36.
Wanderers in reply made a poor start and lost all top four batsmen for single figure scores, with Warnes taking two of these wickets. Lindon Brown and Jeremy Eliott halted the lose of wickets but when Dean Elliott got the wickets of both these men Wanderers were struggling.
Some big hitting from Nigel Young suddenly moved the visitors into a much more positive position, and they had a chance of a surprise win. But Elliott got Young for 35 and when Elliott got his fourth wicket of the day Wanderers were all out for 151, 16 runs short of their target.
Dean Elliot finished with 4 for 40 and Rayno Arendse took 3 for 28.
A superb victory for Cromer who with their 22 points moved up to fourth the other results going in their favour.
This Saturday sees a trip to Brundall to face Vauxhall Mallards.
