2008 Reports

Cromer U15s vs. Sheringham U15s

Cromer, at home, opened their under 15s season with a closely fought out match against Sheringham. Winning the toss, Sheringham captain Jordie Taylor elected to bat first. Cromer started strongly with the ball both Turner and Craske taking the early wickets of J Taylor and Moy; however a strong 97 run partnership between Smith (51) and Taylor (45) stabilised the Sheringham innings. Further support was provided by F Sutton (11) and C Taylor (15) as Sheringham managed to get up to 157 runs. A barrage of wickets, forcing a Sheringham collapse, by Phillips (4 -32) and Fields (1-24), helped to restrict the Lobsters from getting away at the end.

A stoic innings from Turner (73*) and good support from A Craske (35), saw an opening partnership of 92 runs. However when Craske was bowled by Moy after 16 overs, an ever increasing run rate, became a serious handicap; and when Youngman was run out for 11, Sheringham had all but sealed the game. Turner hit 16 off the final over to bring Cromer up to 138 runs. A good effort from Cromer against a competent Sheringham team.

Cromer U15s vs. Acle U15s

Cromer entertained Acle on their second home game of the season. Winning the toss, captain Turner elected to bat first. Cromer got of to a shaky start. Craske was dismissed early for 3 by Sayer; and it was only a good partnership between Turner (43) and Youngman (17) that began to propel Cromer to a respectable total. When both Turner and Youngman were dismissed towards the latter stages of the Cromer innings, it was a good knock from Brodie (12) and supported by Van Gruening that elevated them to 111 runs.

Craske helped Cromer to the best possible start by dismissing Newman in the first over of the innings, Van Gruening taking a good catch behind the stumps. Cromer’s openers continued to bowl tight lines as Acle only managed to score 13 off their first 6 overs. Craske then bowled Sayer in the 7th over, which brought Wattmore to the crease. An elegant 33, provided a glimmer of hope for Acle as they started to march towards Cromer’s total. However when Fields bowled Wattmore in the 12th over, the Acle innings began to halt. There was some resistance from King (12*), however both Perez and Aldred (1-2) countered this well. Acle stuttered to 73; an end to a great Cromer performance.

Cromer U15s vs. Ashmanhough U15s

Cromer continued their wining ways with a victory over Ashmanhough; posting a confident 157 and managing to restrict their opposition. Turner’s excellent form with the bat manifested itself in some well timed shots to the boundary, and although Youngman was bowled cheaply by Metkarth (1-7), him and an audacious innings from Craske (54) built a solid foundation to the Cromer total. Craske was then stumped, and Van Gruening came to the crease. His hard hitting 22 provided some serious momentum at the end of the innings, Cromer finishing on 157.

Cromer’s bowlers did well enough to restrict the Ashmanhough batsman, Craske (1-20) and Turner (2-13) started well. Perez (2-25) and Fields (2-16) provided good support. Opener Metkarth (60), however, batted well, seeing off the good balls, and taking full advantage of Cromer’s lapse in concentration during the middle overs. He found the boundary on regular occasions, and started to threaten the Cromer total. Metkarth put on a substantial partnership with Fleming (20*) before he was bowled by Fields in the 15th over. The rate then began to escalate, and Ashmanhough needed nearly 30 off their final 3 overs. Tight bowling by Aldred and Philips clinched a 20 run Cromer victory.

Martham U15s vs. Cromer U15s

Cromer faced a severely weakened 9 man Martham team. Losing the toss, Cromer were asked to field first. Martham did not provide a great deal of resistance to some fine bowling from Craske who ended up with 6 wickets for just 2 runs. Both Youngman and Philips picked up one a piece as Martham only managed to score 29 runs.

Edmonds opened the batting and displayed a good technique scoring a valuable 10 runs before he was bowled by Turrell. Further support from Aldred and Broodie, ensured Cromer achieved their target within 7 overs. Van Gruening finishing the game with a large 6 over the square leg boundary. Promising signs were displayed by all the Cromer boys.

Bradfield U15s vs. Cromer U15s

Winning the toss, Turner elected to bat on a flat surface. Turner (130*) and Youngman (64*) made the best of the conditions, by putting on a massive unbeaten partnership of 222 in their 20 overs. Turner struck an emphatic maiden youth ton, and punished every Bradfield bowler; with Youngman providing superb support, as Cromer rocketed their way past 200 runs.

The Bradfield batsman must be credited for remaining positive and providing a competitive challenge to Cromer’s large total. Hill scored a well worked 40 runs and Hannant (63*) looked in good form, however it was not enough, and Cromer celebrated a 100 run victory. Wickets were shared between Brodie (1-2), Turner (1-2) and Oliver, who bowled well taking his first ever wicket (1-8). Cromer still have to play a rearranged game against Norwich and Coltishall Wanderers, but should have done enough to reach this years quarter final knock out. Cromer’s under 15s look a revitalised side, and all the boys are playing superb cricket.
